Celebrating British Flowers Week with a Suffolk flower flash

Suffolk members of Flower From the Farm, working with the support of local charity Bury in Bloom, are today creating an immersive piece of public floral art on Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds to celebrate British Flowers Week.  We’ll be doing this whilst at the same time promoting sustainable foam-free floristry techniques. Organiser Victoria Uff of  The Meadow Patch reports.

With our theme of ‘Regeneration’ we aim to unite growers, floral artists and the wider public. We’re  building an interactive floral installation with flowers grown entirely by our Suffolk members, using sustainable and regenerative principles. Coming together in a centuries-old tradition of using flowers to express our shared emotions, hopes for the future and connection to the land we live on, we aim to showcase the beauty of UK grown flowers and the artistry of those who work with them. As we build and create our installation, we ‘re inviting the public to share the experience by writing their own hopes, wishes and thoughts on our specially-made flower tokens which will be collated at the end of the project as a memento for the people of Bury.

We’re  also holding a competition to win part of the design itself. We want to encourage everyone to actively seek out locally-grown flowers in an effort to redress the carbon impact of the imported flower industry.

The Flower Flash event is led by Victoria Uff (The Meadow Patch), and designed by Alarna McCarry (The Wild Society), our team of local members have been working hard over the last 6 weeks to bring the flower flash to life.  We hope our project will delight, inspire and educate and we can not wait to share it with you!
